Deacon

Born in Midland, Texas, Deacon Stine graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree (with Honors) in Economics from Texas Tech University in 1972, and a Master of Arts degree in History from The University of Memphis in 1996.  He received the Graduate Diploma from The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University in 1980.  He completed all of the requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in History from The University of Memphis, except for the dissertation.

Deacon Stine worked as a bank regulator for the federal government in Texas, New York, and Puerto Rico for seven years, and as a bank holding company executive for sixteen years in Texas and Tennessee.  From 1995 to 1998, he was an instructor in history at The University of Memphis.  Since 1998, he has served as a professor of history, economics, and government at Tyler Junior College.  In 1999, Deacon Stine married Laurie Dowell, Choir School of East Texas Verger and owner/practitioner of Arise Prosthetics in Tyler.  His son, Daniel G. Stine, graduated in 2004 from The University of Texas at Austin, and is an environmental engineer with TRC Solutions, Inc. in Austin.

Ordained as a permanent deacon in 1986, Deacon Stine joined the clerical staff of Christ Church in 1998, after service in the Dioceses of the Rio Grande, Northern Mexico, and West Tennessee.  In addition to his liturgical and preaching duties, he coordinates pastoral and lay liturgical ministries for the parish.  He teaches the adult inquirers classes and leads regular adult Sunday School classes.  In 2007, Deacon Stine was named an Honorary Chaplain of the Texas House of Representatives by Speaker Tom Craddick.
