Community of Christ
Habitat for Humanity of Smith County is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry seeking to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Through volunteers and community support, we build simple, affordable homes for deserving partner families. The partner families have shown the need for adequate housing, having the means to repay the 20-year, no-interest mortgage, and are willing to use their own "sweat equity" (300-500 volunteer hours) to build their home and the homes of other families.
Rand Huzenlaub, Director of Volunteer Service for Habitat of Smith County, is requesting volunteers to help with the next Habitat house, a joint project involving three churches: Christ Church, Community of Christ, and First Presbyterian. Approximately 10-15 volunteers are needed on Saturday, July 12, from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, and volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. The home site is located at 2030 N. Angeline, Tyler, Texas 75702, and tasks will include erecting trusses and finishing the wrapping of the house. Thereafter, 10 volunteers are needed each Saturday, 8am - 12 noon, until the home is completed, which will take approximately 15 weeks.
A total of $60,000 is needed for construction of the home, $32,000 has been raised, $5,000 alone coming from Community of Christ which boasts a membership of 10! If you are able to volunteer or donate funds, please contact Rand at 902-595-6630, ext. 10.
