"Faithful Believers"

Adult Christian Education:

The Gospel of Mark, Ongoing: Led by The Rev. David Luckenbach. Widely believed to be the first written account of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, Mark brings the Good News of Christ to life with urgency, clarity, and joy. Join David as we explore this powerful account of the life of Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Second Great Awakening, September 20 - October 25: Led by The Rev. Stephen Stine. From the 1820s to the 1840s, American religion experienced a tremendous upheaval known as the Second Great Awakening. From this period arose entirely new denominations, such as the Mormons, the emergence of revivalism among Protestant churches, and a new understanding of mission work in the Episcopal Church. The roles of women, African Americans, and the laity in Christian denominations were transformed by the events of the Second Great Awakening.

The Third Great Awakening, November 1 - December 6: Led by The Rev. Stephen Stine. Starting in the 1920s, a third great wave of change rolled over American religious organizations. Fundamentalism, Evangelicalism, and Pentecostalism emerged as important components of American church life. The mainstream denominations, including the Roman Catholic, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches, dealt with the issues of modernism and new missionary work. The Third Great Awakening had substantive effects on religion and politics that are still felt today.

Parables, October 18, 25, November 1, 8: Led by John Carr. The concept of this class is to utilize either parables or other New Testament stories as springboards for discussion in the format of the EFM Theological Reflections. This will serve to present the familiar stories of the New Testament in a new discussion format that may be unfamiliar. The product of each discussion will be the "insights and implications" that the stories provide for each participant to carry, not only into their everyday life, but for them to share with others. The goal is to enable those who attend to have a new paradigm for biblical discussion and to incrementally enhance their ability to be better witnesses for Jesus.
